I know, I know. You read that and thought that apparently my idea of affordable and your idea of affordable were no where near each other. I think you may be surprised with what I have come up with. You can find islands to rent that will cost you tens of thousands of dollars for a week. I don’t know about you, but I am a very average person when it comes to income. I don’t have tens of thousands of dollars to spend on a private island. Heck, I don’t have thousands of dollars, let alone tens of thousands. But wouldn’t it be nice if we did??
I have wanted to rent an island for as long as I can remember. I figured that one of these days it would happen. It was just a matter of when. So I started doing some research and found out that you can rent an island at an affordable price. And by affordable, yes, we are in the same ballpark in our thinking. Here are my top 3 picks for renting an island in the Caribbean and not breaking the bank.
#3 Eagle Rock Caye – Located in the Abaco region of the Bahamas, Eagle Rock Cay is situated in the harbor of Hopetown and will sleep 4 people. While not as remote as other islands, you will have beautiful 360 degree views. This area of the Bahamas is know for sailing, so you will see plenty of yachts sailing by as you sip your morning coffee out on your private deck . You can also watch them pass by later in the day while you sit it your own private hot tub! Starting at $360 a night.
#2 Bird Island – Located just 6 miles off of the mainland of Belize, Bird Island sits atop an atoll. Crystal clear water that is only waist deep stretches out all around the island. Think of the snorkeling you can do right out of your door! With a total of 1200 sq ft, you have 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. You can sleep 6 people on this little piece of paradise. There is a 4 night minimum starting at $595 a night.
#1 Little Cay – This little gem is located off of Utila which is part of the Bay Islands off the north coast of Honduras. With a main house and a Casita, there is enough room to sleep 12 people. Utila is known around the word for its diving and is one of the favorite spot for divers to get their Master Diver Certification. It is also one of the only places that you have the chance to see Whale Sharks year round. At only $155 a night for up to 6 people (for the island, not per person. Additional $15 per person over 6 people), this is my top choice for view and price. As affordable as this is, I have made reservations for a stay. Look for more information on our stay in a few months!
