Pier at Little Cay

I stumbled upon Little Cay while planning a trip to Utila, Honduras. I had been looking for an island to rent and found this little gem. We were heading down to vacation with two other couples that had not been to Honduras before. The plan was to spend three nights on Utila and explore it before spending four nights on Roatan. We never got to explore Utila because we never left this little piece of paradise that we called “ours” for the time we were there.

The main house sleeps 8 according to their website, but I’m pretty sure there are more beds and it will accommodate close to 12. The casita will sleep four more. There was no air conditioning, but with the island being only about three-quarters of an acre, there was no need. There was a constant ocean breeze that kept things comfortable. There is no Wi-Fi and that made this the perfect place to spend a few days and completely unplug.

We arrived on the ferry and then walked to one of the local grocery stores and stocked up on supplies before we met our ride to go to Little Cay. It was about a 20 minute boat ride from Utila Town and when we arrived we were given a cell phone to contact the owner for any additional supplies we might need. They will come out once a day and bring anything you need, all you have to do is call.

To be quite honest with you, we didn’t need much. We spent our few days here waking up before the sunrise, sitting in the warm water the majority of the day and taking a nap when we wanted. We did a lot of snorkeling. The reef around the island was beautiful. You can rent snorkel gear in Utila Town for $10 a day or you can bring your own.

According to their website, you can stay on this lovely island for $155 a night for up to six people. It is an additional $10 per person per night over six guests. I will warn you that the website shows the prices current as of 2013. We stayed in October of 2019 and the price was still the same.

The only drawback to this little piece of paradise was that the refrigerator didn’t want to stay shut, so our food didn’t stay cold. If you ask the owner, they have a couple ice chests that you can use. I would definitely recommend doing this. And who knows, they may have replaced the refrigerator since we were there. For the price, you can’t beat this place. I don’t think you will find an entire island to rent, anywhere, that will compare to the value of Little Cay. And the sunrises and sunsets are an added bonus. We will definitely be back!
